I'd also endorse the Ryobi for what you want but don't get the lowest powered one (cant remember the model No). The additional features of the models above that are worth the extra cost IMO.
In my experience the build quality of a jig saw makes a big difference to the abilty to make a reasonably accurate cut - unlike a cheap pistol drill for example that will do the job ok but will fall apart quicker.
