Joining sleepers on the side

What would be the best way to join sleepers on their side to make some garden furniture? Like this pic I've taken off Google images.

You can simply use long screws, drill holes to fit diameter of screw head about 50-100mm deep ( depending on timber dimensions) then join with long screws.


The photos don’t show how the chairs are assembled, so they may not be attached as you thought.

Or, cut identical holes in either sleeper so that they line up and use anchor resin / threaded bar.
