Eveining,
I need to replace about 1m of joist in an alcove that has historic woodworm.
It's 100mm x 50mm, or 4x2 in old money as the house is ~100 yrs old.
Issue is the closest I can get is 95mm x 45mm finished.
Can I cut a slither off the timber and use as packer underneath on its end?
It would be about 5-7mm or 1/2'' thick.

the thickness of the packer is irrelevant

I think I'm going to use plastic window packers to fill the gap underneath. It's actually only 1/4'' / 7mm. Then I'll use steel joist fixings to attach it to the timber base below.
