I brush cleaned the drains in the bathroom because the water was backing up in my shower and basin.

There was the usual black slime that I know about, but, there was also opaque thick harder than jelly, softer than rubber stuff that also came back with the brush.

It reminds me of when I put fairy liquid into my car's windscreen washer bottle and it clumped up and blocked the pump, so is it residue of liquid soap/toothpaste/shaving gel, or is that also bioslime, AND what should I do to clear this away other than brushing the drains wvery so often?

Thank you.

Soap scum possibly? Are you in a Hard water area?

Don't think there is a lot that can be done, very hot water may help keep things flowing, if not afraid it'll be a good clean out as and when required.

Do you use the blue toilet blocks in the cistern. They can leave a residue that sounds like what you are describing

Washing soda crystals and hot water are very good for dissolving soap.

And, use less soap..

But so little water that it wets them but does not wash them away. They will collect in traps and behind blockages. You can wash them out with more boiling water the next day.

You can pour just a jugful of dissolved crystals down the plughole and overflow late at night to keep traps clean.

You can also use it to desludge washing machines. Hottest cycle, no powder or anything. You will see the machine fills up with suds and black water from the sludge it dissolves. If you put in white towels, they will come out whiter and softer than before (they tend to accumulate sosp residue, so no powder needed). Once a month will do.

It is not dangerous and corrosive like caustic soda, it's a different formula.
