We've been told we need to use 'kemfix' M12 bolts for a support fixing in brick wall. Has anyone used these, and is there an equivalent I can buy in Screwfix etc?

Also, how are these installed? Is it a DIY job?

cheers

There are several types of chemical resin you might use, and several makes including Chemfix, Hilti and Rawl.
You drill a 14mm hole, squirt the resin in, twist in your M12 studding and leave it to set.
The resin cartridge normally contains two sections, one with the hardener and one with the adhesive. When you pull the trigger, the two parts mix in the nozzle.
If you use the right stuff, the stud will never come out.

I think JCP do a small pack which you can use an ordinary cartridge gun with. Most of the serious makes have their own proper gun, which would probably set you back more than the resin.

On a hot day, the stuff sets in less than 10 mins, so your nozzle will be set hard. So make sure you've got all your studs ready, with all holes drilled and blowed out before you open the tube.

I used some where the resin was contained in glass vials. You drilled and cleaned the holes, slid a vial into each hole then wound the studs into the holes on top of it with an impact drill, breaking the glass and mixing the resin as it went in.
