Ive worked on one of these Chris and wondered exactly the same thing. Phone there Tech and got a reply which came in a very cockney accent " Dont know mate, there made in China. We just buy em' in"

Anyway the reading I had was about 6ohms and it was fine. Massive fan they are!

If a titchi boiler fan is 40 ohms then its only logical that a massive fan will be much lower and I would expect 6 ohms to be about right!
The impedance is another matter!
Better to measure the R and the L on a motor!
