Hi to all and happy new year .i have a keston130 boiler which is losing pressure from 1.5bar to 0.5bar in about 6hours .seem to be leaking from condense out pipe drip out even when boiler has not been on all day.so i think it could be the heat exchanger.is this possible or common on theses boilers and if so is it worth repairing it.any help please thanks Joe

Do a search on Keston 130 on this forum. H/E will be at least £500. You may have been lucky not to have other faults and its arguably better to invest in a new decent boiler with a 5 year warranty than start pouring endless money into this one.
Keston boilers do seem to be very unreliable and I have seen several failed heat exchangers.
The makers will say you did not have enough flow rate or a bypass.
I think the replacement is likely to be about £900 before fitting.
Thats one boiler where a BG contract is going to be very good value!

I have the disagree with the above statement, while yes i have seen a "few" heat exchangers go on the K series, alot of it is down to the boiler not being anually serviced (or if it is, not properly)

so what do i do on an annual service to prevent the heat exchanger leaking?

ok it was early in the morning when I wrote that, 9am!! regardless 9 times out of 10 the heat exchanger goes due to limescale etc. (which how can that be pointed at Keston) Although not saying all go due to that and there are some that have just been made poorly.
although re-reading Agiles comment Im surprised Keston went down the route of not enough flow rate or bypass...
On one of the failed HEs that I have seen it was a 60 mm long "split" on the outer casing which is quite thick metal perhaps 3-4 mm ?
No water was leaking but the hot POC emerging tripped the thermal fuse.
I do have to say that I cannot understand just how that could have happened. Even odder is that the surface was pushed outwards by 2-3 mm around the split as if it had burst due to 10 Bar of pressure inside.
Anyway lets welcome "Keston" as he seems to be very knowledgeable about his namesakes.
It would be better if he would register and post in the Combustion Chamber section of this site where RGIs discuss things.

Under CORGI they accepted that a manufacturer's staff engineer did not need to be registered for gas work with them as long as it was only on their own company products and mostly on their own premises.
I think that was meant to be for the HQ design staff etc. who might make occasional visits to customers premises but certainly not for their staff service engineers.

Personally The K series is the easiest range to look after so a new HE should solve the problem but obviously the boiler itself is outdated so for a little more of the green stuff you might as well invest in a new boiler with warranty.
Could I convince you in getting the C40 or Q37?
