Hi

The lock on our uPVC french windows has become faulty. The door is open, the key is stuck in the lock and I can't turn the key more than about 20-30 degrees. Therefore it can't be locked.

I have tried removing the machine screw on the side and taking the barrel out but suspect the cam is out of alignment so stopping this from happening.

Any thoughts before I call a specialist out?

The lock appears to be of brass construction, not sure if that is relevant!?

How much could I expect to pay a professional to remove and replace?

Thanks

Simon

Do as you have done, MS screw out!
It may help if you remove handle plates or key plate.
Then wiggle the key about, whilst pulling the cylinder out.

Sometimes the cam can break, So sounds like the cylinder will need replacing.

As above take the handles off and go mad with some lube. Turn, Wiggle and tap and hopefully it will come out.

If that fails, With the handles removed grab the cylinder with a pair of mole grips or pliers and snap the lock off with sideways bending. There is a small chance of damaging the gearbox this way so have a good go with getting it out in one piece first.

Sorry for the late update.

Spoke to local locksmith and he supected door mechanism failure but rightly said he wouldn't know until he'd seen it.

When he came down immediately he said it's not mech, he too couldn't budge lock and used barrel breaker on the lock. Used plenty of lube, replaced barrel, 're aligned door and charged £50.

Very fair I thought and secure again!
