Reading the taps thread ' hot left or right' reminded of kitchen mixer I fitted for a customer. The mixer had a little scrub screw for removing the sprout to replace washers. I fitted the tap with scrub screw facing toward you but the customer wanted facing the wall as it was 'unsightly'. I did what he wanted.

I think the customer is correct!
Some taps have the brand name facing forwards when the screw faces the wall. Thats must be correct from the manufacturers point of view.
Furthermore the hot tap will come assembled on the left when the screw faces away from you.
To undo the screw use a 1/4" screwdriver bit in a flat ratchet tool.
