I have a wooden kids playhouse, which was donated from a relative.

Its a bit girly for my 2 boys, so I want to man it up a bit!

Currently has a pitched roof, which i felted and was thinking of cutting a small window slot opening, so they can spy out of or a small hatch that they can pop their head out of - but unsure how to waterproof the transition? especially if there is a hinge?

have already put in a flag pole for the pirate flag but does anyone have any other bright ideas?

cheers

Cut the hole out and screw an upstand frame using 2 by 2, which can be weather protected by some self adhesive aluminium flashing.

Make the frame for a perspex sheet out of 2- by 1, using the flashing to seal it. Simple hinge and a window stay should do the trick.

That's what I did for my Edwardian skylight in my proper house in a slate roof, and it lasted for nigh on 20 years (at which time we sold up and moved on, for reasons totally unrelated to my bodged quasi-velux window  )

Depending on how big the opening is and the height of the structure, you could also create an emergency escape route (i.e. slide or fireman's pole  )
