i want to kill some lylandi trees chemically , whats the best thing i could use, to either inject or water the roots with......?, looking at some thing nice and strong which i could buy

I hope they're your trees and not a neighbours :!:

Why not just cut them down and remove the roots. Why do you just want to kill them?, they wont look that atrractive afterwards.

Yeah, when this was originally posted, this is exactly what I suspected was going on. You may want to consider that if they are not your trees, you are guilty of causing criminal damage.

Hi Paulboy

Killing them is abit drastic, but you will need to wait till summer, then inject them with neat 'Glyphosate' (industrial weed killer). Will need to read instruction carefully. Process is called 'thinning'. You'll need a 20mm syringe. Syringe up solution, drill hole into bottom of tree, and inject solution.
Will take a few weeks to die, will turn brown first! Read chart to calculate amount of solution. Don't touch solution with hands! If you don't kill it first, then the roots will continuously grow suckers out of ground.
As the last post said, better to trim them, than kill them. But if you have to do the above......please read the instructions very carefully, as it's powerful stuff.

where can i buy Glyphosate, is the any reason why i need to wait till summer to kill them of with this?

Well, spring really, they are not drawing sap until they start growing again. Oh also, bear in mind that if the trees are close to your house, there is a possibility that a quick killing of the trees could cause heave on your foundations.

You can buy it from horticultural supplies or farmers supplies. It's not cheap about £15 for a 500ml container. Because it's a poison you may have to prove your identity!

I can't explain to you why summer on this short reply, but take it from me, try it in winter and it will fail.

Be warned if the tree's arn't yours a tree officer or tree surgeon will know how you killed them, and can have them analysed, and you will be liable for prosecution if it's proved it's you whom did it!

Glyphosate is a translocated herbicide,normally foliar-applied

So,like most weedkillers, works best when plants are growing fastest.(travels round the sap,so not as good when plants are dormant over winter)
Goes under the tradename "roundup" - used to be a Monsanto product, but most garden centres have an "own brand" glyphosate-based weedkiller now.

Get a large dog. It will cock it's leg up the tree and kill it. (or is it a cat) I can't quite remember. :?

Hhhmm, smells really fishy now, can't wait to kills these tress, the neighbour must be on holiday. :?

Bike it, there is absolutely no need to kill leylandii they will not regrow from a cut stump.

It would simply be a waste of time and weedkiller.

If for some crazy reason you want to kill them but not cut them down then SBK is much more effective than standard glyphosate.
