Does anyone know a kiln engineer? I have a top loader ceramic kiln that runs off a 3-pin plug and the thermocouple keeps going. I managed to replace it myself but now it's getting costly to keep replacing it. Any help, although I know this is quite a specialist area, would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for the name of that kiln company - I've added them to my favourites. :D

Do have the correct thermocouple. If it is too lower rated (temperature) then the temperatures reached in kilns could be melting the hot junction.

It may also need a new pocket. Instead of melting some thermocouples will corrode in the vapours from the items being kilned and must therefore be sheathed in stainless steel or ceramic gas tight holders.

It could be both of the things you describe. The housing to the thermocouple looks quite rusty also it does seem to go if I reach the top end of the kilns temperature i.e anything near 1200 c. As I am currently doing work that requires a lower temperature; that's one problem solved but I'm not sure how I deal with the other. The part of the thermocouple that is housed is in a stainless steel(?) casing which is protected inside with fireproof wadding but still it seems to be rusting.
