Kitchen door hinge

Hi
In the process of replacing kitchen cabinet doors and hinges, come across hinges which has base plate with 4 screw holes, photo below, usually 2 screws fixings for base plates and 2 screws for hinges. I believe these are standard size but why 4 screw holes? Can I only use 2?
