Called round to a neighbour's this evening to pass judgement on an intermittent dishwasher. Discovered that the socket for the same had been fitted about a foot from the floor with the result that when the plug was inserted the dishwasher couldn't be pushed fully back.
No problem to the fitter who had simply cut around the backbox and let it back into the insulation behind the plasterboard. As it happened, the tarry stuff on the back of the dishwasher had become glued to the plug and the vibration had shaken it loose in the socket.
Could be worse - no new dishwasher needed and the rewire was a quick job.
