We are just getting ready to install a new kitchen in our extension. We have chosen Black Gloss doors for most of the units in a L shape with the one side of the L sticking into the room creating a peninsular. The peninsular will have a 900mm wide worktop to give a breakfast bar.

There will also be a Burgandy island on castors with a similar worktop over.

We didn't want to purchase the original end panels as they were stupidly expensive.

What options can you guys suggest for finishing the back of the cabinets on the peninsular/island and also the end panels? So far we have thought about either 15mm plywood with tiles over or to purchase some splashback and glue it on.

Tempered glass. 3-4mm thick. paint the back to match/contrast existing decor and glue it on with silicone. Shouldn't be too expensive for a basic rectangular shape with no cutouts. Try yellow pages under glass/glazing suppliers but very important you get the dimensions right as it cant be recut after its made.

The ply/tiles option will also work fine.

How about a big peice of acrylic, can even buy it on ebay in different colours. Can be easily cut and polished.

Or, perhaps you could use cuboard doors with no handles... just an idea.

We also have the same problem, the idea about false doors is excellent! Any more ideas out there?

False doors is ok but not cheap.

You can get splashback in large pieces that may be suitable (Still not cheap though, but often cheaper than the 'original' end and back panel options)
