Kitchen knock-through queries

We are currently getting quotes to have our house rewired but at some point, we'd like to knock through between the kitchen and dining room to make it more open plan.

First question - should we do the knock through before the rewire or will it not make much difference?

Secondly - in order to make the best use of space when we do the knock through, who would be best to contact for advice - a builder, an architect, a kitchen designer or a combination?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I moved into a bungalow that needed some rewiring and we wanted to build an extension for a revamped kitchen/dining room. I found an electrician and discussed my plans with him so that we could crack on with the rewire but not do any unecessary work.

He came back at various stages adding in lighting and sockets for the new build, hob, oven, garage/workshop, outside sockets and EV charger.

So my advice would be find an electrician and talk through what you want. Then find someone who can draw your proposal and talk it through with them too.

Yes. Do all 'carcassing' work before plumbing and leccy trades. Contact a decent builder with knowledge of SE''s and Building Regulations. If your builder is duff a decent SE will be good value.

That's great as long as the sparky and plumber are aware of the fact that their future pipe or cable run is now blocked by a steel beam in the floor space.

Thanks. The knock-through would only be one wall which currently only has one plug socket on and nothing else. We have told the electricians about our plans so they are aware. The rest of the rewire is just updating old for new. There are no other layout changes.

FWIW: Most "open plan" knock-thro Lintels are typically set below the ceiling surface not "in the floor space."
How can the sparkie or plumber not be aware of what's proposed when they have had a previous heads up walk thro the job?
