I tried and failed to fit a new kicthen sink yesterday. Simple top mount stainless sink but without a raised profile around it's perimeter (just flat stainless steel).

The sink came with a roll of adhesive foam tape so I applied that to the sink and lowered it into the hole in the worktop. The thing is that no amount of tightening the clips will pull the sink close enough to the worktop (they can't compress the foam enough). There is a ~2-3mm gap between the worktop and sink all the way around. If I tighten the clips any more, they just bend and fail.

Am I doing something wrong or should I just expect this gap? It looks pretty terrible. I'd really like it to sit cleanly against the worktop without sitting 3mm proud of the surface as it currently does.

Suspect I just need to start again, remove the tape and use silicone?

Cheers.

yeah do this

make sure the silicone is warm first -not cold straight from the garage you could always warm it in a bucket of water

you might still struggle to get it down tight -if so use some clamps and a length of timber batten

if the worktop is wood like say laminate on chipboard make sure you fully seal all edges first

Remove the foam strip and throw it in the bin.

Buy a tube of Dow Dowsil 785+ Clear Silicone.

Apply a 10mm bead around the perimeter of the sink cut out on the surface of worktop.

Put the sink in, tighten the clips, wipe off excess silicone with wonder wipes.

Job done.
