I'm installing a seperate ring main in my kitchen - could anyone tell me the minimum distance a socket can be from the sink please as I don't want to have to rip it all out when the inspector calls!

300mm from edge of sink, also cooker switch 300mm from edge of hob(horizontal obviously).

150mm minimum height above worktop to centre of plug socket. (you will probably want it higher). :)

The only regulation is that sockets and accessories are suitable for the environment they are to be used in, the regs do not stipulate any distances.
So if you put your sockets right next to the sink then they are likely to be splashed and must therefore be IPx4 or higher. Its down to the installers discretion as to the suitability of any elctrical accessory and its location.
By the way under part p legislation kitchens are notifiable locations and you need to inform labc or use a registered spark.

Nice to see someone who is aware of the need to involve LABC at an early stage in the project. :D

Yes, the socket has to be a minimum of 300 mm from the sink, thats IAW BS 7671 Wiring Regs.

Would you care to quote the actual regulation number that states that please :?:
I have only seen the 300mm figure in guides, not in the regs themselves.
