Kitchen units

To complement my worktops thread, i'm also looking for advice on cabs.

I've got quotes from DIY Kitchens and B&Q, oh and Wren who quite frankly i'd rather give my money to charity too than buy from based on sales experience.

B&Q i'm finding at more expensive than DIY Kitchens who appear to market on there website a far superior set of units so am i missing something???

Has anyone gone down the DIY route (self assembled) and had issues doing plans themselves? It's quite daunting but im warming too it the more I learn.

Does anyone have any other recommended suppliers.

I just got my DIY-kitchens order last week. Units are now all installed. All feels high quality, glued and doweled, no rubbish cams. So much faster to set up than a flatpack kitchen. I used their online planner ( ) and it worked very well. Everything fits!

I paid for the gold delivery so the delivery chaps brought the units right into the install location.

Customer service is good. There was a missing item and they immediately dispatched it for delivery.
I've used DIY-k twice, both times very pleased. One damaged unit replaced within a few days with no fuss, and I was very pleased with the quality on both occasions.

As it's all fully assembled there's very little to do other than securing and squaring it all up. Most of the work is the planning and first fix layout then second fix plumbing/elecs etc.

I'm in bournemouth so really for what we are spending i need to go up there.

Did you go up or did you get samples for cabinet doors?

DIY Online planner is brilliant i've done the design and got it down to what we like so it all sounds a bit too good to be true it couldn't go wrong with my fitter.

However i'm thinking cabinet installs isn't that big a job myself.

I did neither, which was a bit rash, but it worked out fine.

Installing the cabinets is not a big deal but you need to be good with general carpentry, as you will need to modify them, measure well, fit cornice, pelmet, handles, etc. And silly things like using the right length of screws, etc.
I've got better pricing from Better Kitchens if anyone is in the same boat as me.

They are in Somerset so easier to get to compared to Rotherham from where i live!

Did you go with better kitchens in the end? I’m trying to get some feedback on their quality.

I keep hearing this nonsense.

A fixed cabinet goes nowhere, so there is no advantage in glue and dowels, no extra performance and no extra life.
Diy-kitchens are brilliant. Quality and really good price. I visited the show room up north to be sure. I saved over 5000
