Hi,

This is my varnished kitchen ceiling. It's been cladded for longer than the eight years I've lived here. I'm planning to paint it white. After I've sanded it do you think I should still treat the knots or are they 'exhausted' after this long?

Should I sand back to the bare wood or will it be ok just to go over it with some P180 to make a key for the paint?

Thanks for any advice.

Wash it with sugar soap or soda crystals first, this is essential.

Whilst washing it , rub it down with wet and dry sandpaper or wait till it's dry, (your choice). I'd do it while I was already up there washing it, then sponge it dry, with clean water.

Definitely knot it after.

Use Dulux Trade, oil based undercoat.

Come back with finished pictures and thank Zampa.
