Yes well, its not right, but those fittings have an R7 halogen in them, its not like you can put the lamp in the wrong way round, is it?

RF, sorry I don't understand your ref. That reg relates to single cored armoured cables etc..?? :?

"Single-core armoured with steel wire or steel tape shall not be used for an a.c. circuit. The conductors of an a.c. circuit installed in a ferromagnetic enclosure shall be arranged so that all line conductors and the neutral conductor, if any, and the appropriate protective conductor are contained it the same enclosure.

Where such conductors enter a ferrous enclosure, they shall be arranged such that the conductors are only collectively surrounded by ferrous material."

But the regulation relates to Ferromagnetic enclosures and electromagnetic effects...

The live and neutral single core cables appear to be passing through the metal casing via different holes.

Edit: as RF says ^^

Maybe that lamp is made of non ferrous metal.

What about the steel screw between the live and neutral leads.. That is a ferrous core in what is effectively a single turn coil so the screw will have eddy currents induced in it.

Where the cables are carrying large currents then eddy current heating of adjacent ferrous metal may be significant. That said the regulations should be followed.
