If he had stopped after 1 hit I'd have some understanding, if there was a satisfactory reasoning for why he did it.

Continuing after, I can't see the justification. Went too far.

No problem with an appeal, and a delayed sentence if so, but no problem with the law being applied either.

Not asking him to be released. As far as I'm concerned, if the system has worked correctly then prison is the correct place
 
The sentence seems broadly appropriate given the sustained attack, reference to his position of power, the fact he knocked him to the ground and kept going. As the Judge said.. sometimes such attacks are fatal.
 
Category 2A assault - he might have got that reassessed as 2B. 6 months jail is highly likely for 2A and 10 weeks is still broadly acceptable for 2B.

He'll be out in under a month.
