Laminate: stairs and landing

Hello,

Our stairs and landing are currently old carpet but nice nice due to pets.

We were going to recarpet, but expect the pets will creat the same issue. So we thought laminating would be a better option.

our landing is L shaped. If we do laminate should the laminate run in one direction ie. in line with the stairs, or change direction for each run?

is laminating landing and stairs the sort of job a handy DIYer could do?
