laptop to stereo

Is it possible to play sound from laptop through a stereo.

The stereo has phono inputs and a squarish optical socket.

Yes, you can get a lead from your headphone out socket on the laptop to connect to the phono plugs on the stereo. Make sure you leave the sound level pretty low on the laptop.
