Hi Folks,

Been a lurker on these forums for a while but I though I'd post a photo diary of sorts showing my home cinema install.

All done by myself except the plastering - loads of DIY involved covering quite a few trades.

The basic detail of the install is that it's a 'floating wall' design with a hidden ceiling mounted projection screen. All the speakers and cables are hidden in the walls and ceiling.

This is the back wall of the room which will eventually house a 6x2x2 marine aquarium.

These are the piers which will eventually support a couple of beams upon which the aquarium will rest.

The destruction of the quite hideous feature fireplace...

More to follow (lots more...)

What have you done about cooling?

There looks to be no circulation for the kit rack and the TV

Hi

There is plenty of cooling. The display - as you will see later - has a 30mm gap all the way round it. There are also vents in the top and bottom.

The AV rack is vented at the front and top rear.

The plastering was the only bit I didn't do myself. I've tried it before and just haven't got the knack...

First phase of the plastering

AV rack location before and after

Back wall before and after

Completed front wall and close up of projector housing

Almost finished...

Underlay down - I used 'Cloud 9 Cumulous'

The amplifier on its extending rails

All that's missing are the speaker grilles...

That's it for now - believe it or not, I don't have any pictures of the finished room - I'll take some at the weekend!

What kind of acoustic treatment have you gone for?

What are the room dimensions and wall materials (the front wall as you say is front skin plasterboard with rock wool behind - whats the wall behind that made of?)

Hi

Not gone for any specific treatment. The curtains occupy about 80% of one wall and do a great job of dampening any reflections.

The room is about 3.6M across and 4.5M from front to back.

All the walls except the studwork one where the projector is mounted are concrete block.
