Hello,
I have recently moved into a 1900 terraced house.
The bathroom upstairs is in what was originally a 3rd bedroom.
The doorway for bathroom has been made behind the original bedroom doorway.
The upstairs landing is very small and the original doorway is a real pain.
I would like to remove the frame and small wall (60cm) which is front of the bathroom .
It is lathe and plaster wall with black mortar stuff in parts and some of it is empty, just lathe and plaster.
There is a wooden lintel running across the top of the doorway attatched to a vertical timber running from floor to ceiling, with an attic above it.
How can I tell if this is a supporting wall or not, can anyone help?
I presumed it was but when removing some of the plaster today and seeing lathe and gaps I wondered if its not actually a supporting wall. There is nothing above the wood lintel above the doorway.
Many thanks for any help.
