Watched an interesting youtube vid regarding laying tiles on an uneven floor - couple of straight edges and an adhesive spreader that ran on them:

I couldnt work out though, how that system levelled the tiles in 2 dimensions. Sure, laying along the straight edges will result in level tiles along the first row, but then when moving to do the next row, what keeps the 2 rows level with respect to each other?

As a separate query. Laying tiles ona floor that is apparently level (was laid using self levelling liquid screed and a spirit level shows it to be a good job) is there a need to be so technical, or is it sufficient to ensure adhesive is well and evenly spread and tiles carefully placed? Are levelling systems that clamp the edges of tiles to each other required/recommended?
