It doesn't sound like you are getting anywhere mate so I reckon its time for a good old compression test....maybe the short burst of overheating has caused piston ring or piston problems.
On a non turbo diesel there isn't really that much to go wrong, other than the basics.
A diesel specialist can do this for you - keep away from the main stealers!

thanks john im just pulling my hair out here. i did notice the fuel pipes comeing out the fuel tank to be wet so il try changeing thos tomorrow.
