I have just had all my windows replaced (upv) and opted for bow window down stairs.
upon inspection (work men gone before I could look grrrr ) I noticed the lead on the roof ,poorly fitted and not weather proof, (around the join with the window and the wall)

some parts of the lead have been screwed down and also the joins have been covered in clear silicone. I am no expert with lead but I am sure that this will only last a short time.

I need some advice . how should the lead be laid i.e. should they be using silicon to cover the joins and also should they be using screws. I'm sure the answer is no but would like some reassurance from someone in the know

regards

Get them back out and demand that they put the lead work right, that is beyond belive  even the indians would of done a better job. ;)

The first pic is shocking, if left like that it won't take long before you get water damage on the inside walls.

Hi, Just registered with this site as looking for similar advice as yourself. The leading came up on our house, badly laid as houses are only just over 2 years old. Recently had water coming through the roof and building company ordered a roofer out as still under warranty finally came to fix it and left. Only today when independant roofing company came out to fix neighbours and our leading on roof the roofer knocked and stated to me that he noticed I recently had problems with roof as he stated that the job to fix it was a mess and only temporary. They had used mastic around the dorma and roof and this wont last. Builder took pictures. How do I attach photos to show you? what do you think?

old school plumbers needed then ........yeah but aint them scollups neat  .....who was that masked man :?:

i would love to tell you the company who did it but i will give them a chace to come and fix it first before naming and shaming ,

( i am sure they will come back once they find out the cheq has been stoped)

i know the work is pants but still unsure about the screws and silicon is this how it should be done??

screws  silicone  ....maybe a discreet smear of lead flashing sealer under a join or 2 as a belt+ braces measure....and Patination Oil after work finished to stop white stains from lead

i did think the silcone was all wrong .

the work just gets better the lead has not been treated and also its only 1mm thick and also torn at the edges,

just look at the bottom of the window,

It started off @ more than 1mm. it`s been stretched ,not bossed  ...but 2 be fair I did mostly leadburning and a bit of bossing .....and I`m 53 now :D .....it needs a specialist leadworker to either boss it or leadburn the necessary pieces to shape
