Lead gas feed

My gas meter is connected to lead pipe. Everything is ok and it works fine. However I cannot get a smart meter fitted as the engineer says he cannot connect the meter to lead.

My question is will the gas pipe be all in lead from the street or do they come in with copper and then change into lead for whatever reason?

The house is a 1950's semi in Yorkshire.

I can access the floor quite easily in the front room as I think this is where the gas feed will come in. So I might be able to discover what I have down there.

Also how will an engineer connect onto any copper to remove the lead in question ? Or is this a case of getting the gas company to dig up the street and shut off the gas to ny house ?

Is it the incoming that is definitely lead? Either way, seems like an easy get out clause!

This is the meter. Steel coming into the house and gas valve. Then it goes out of the meter in lead. It feeds the boiler and an old gas fire which is no more. This gas fire feed is capped off in copper.

How long ago was the regulator changed? The thing on the end of the silver hose.

Someone couldn't be bothered to fit a bracket!

You wouldnt have to renew anything coming into the house as that has already been done .
The lead outlet could possibly have been slightly altered by bending it to get a fitting on it that would allow either a wall or floor bracket to be fitted . But it is probably meter changer company policy not to do this in case the break the lead joint.
Personally i would disconnect and remove the lead outlet and run internals in copper and connect onto the copper pipe already fitted to boiler supply

Yes I could do but I have a glued floor down in the room between the boiler and the meter. So it will cost be £1k to renew. I will prob leave it as it is withe the current meter as all working ok. if I change the floor in the future I will do the gas feed.
