I'm in the process of renovating a 1950's ish council house. We found a 4.16 mbar drop during a gas tightness check so investigated the pipework. The leak was found on a 15 mm copper joint and repaired. Our investigation showed that an original lead pipe had been repaired with copper (see pic). Would it be within the Gas Safe regulations (done by a 'competent person') to join the lead pipework like this today?

Yeah that would be ok as long as it passes a tt. If your refurbing it i would rip it out and replace with copper though.

Thanks for quick reply. Not sure what we're going to do with this yet but I agree it needs to come out. What's scrap Lead worth at the minute........:sneaky:

Are you sure that is a "repair"? It looks like a "cut in" to supply a new(ish) appliance.

As said, if refurbing, consider replacing alll old lead

I think you're right, they 'cut in' for the boiler when the central heating was fitted and then changed their mind. The pipe on the right (partly hidden) is a new feed from the meter to the boiler.
