lead to copper

hi there went to look at a leak in a ceiling today and found lead to copper
which was passing cut out a section and went to get a leadlock 9lb was to big and 7lb was to small only thing i could do was shave the lead down to fit the 7lb leadlock all seems ok . any one else have any ideas

Sometime lead has deformed a bit, and sometimes the leadloc is a bit tight so you need to take the nut off and carefully force the opening a tad wider. Could have been an odd size from a particular supplier. The GLA in the 50s/60s used non-standard sizes for all plumbing for instance.
 
Next time you'll use a Philmac universal coupling, and not have any problems.
 
A bit of copper and a couple of Taffe t joints ;)
