leak from manhole cover on drive

it was right up to the top with all manner of floaters
It's only poop, some of which was probably still adorning your cheeks as you were admiring your output..

Some people have no problem with killing other humans; whether something is euww or not is purely psychological and perspective is a choice

No, there was more than just poo in there!!!!!!!

Well we have our own sewage treatment system, I will be revisiting everything we've done since last April when I open it up for this year's "de-sludge" this April, when a truck with a big pipe comes along and sucks it all out.

I'm a former townie, country life soon toughens you up!

I have learnt to shut the front windows while it gets emptied, the smell comes from the truck as it blows stinky air out while sucking the tank contents up.

You get over dealing with sewage. Not nice but it isn't going to kill you.

It does make you wonder why we bother eating sweetcorn though.
No manhole is complete without a few bits of sweetcorn floating around

I once lost a set of rods in a pipe, got someone else to help with his lockfast rods.
Don't know what he did, but he lost his rods too!

Had to dig the pipe up, there was a buried U bend which was blocked, so we took that out and ran the pipe straight through to the septic tank

the smell comes from the truck as it blows stinky air out while sucking the tank contents up.

The Truck works by putting a Vacuum in the tank, so atmospheric pressure forces the product up the suction hose, into the tank. Handy as then all the rubbish doesn't have to go through the pump, but as you've found out, when the pump starts, it pulls all the foul air left in the tank from the previous load, out and stinks the entire region out.

Also advised not to get too close to the pump exhaust, as any noxious gases, (i.e. Hydrogen Sulfide), in the product are also emitted whilst loading. I know someone who found out the hard way, and had to be taken to hospital.

Some of the other diseases found in sewage aren't pleasant either. Leptospirosis can kill if not treated, and Giardiasis is handy if you want to lose several stone in a week....

Local water company came out and said it wasn't their problem.

It appears the internal drain brick work needs repairing as bricks had fallen and blocked the pipe.

I was advised I should also change the manhole cover to 125(?) as the one there isn't good especially when cars drive over it.

Probably better to completely replace it with a plastic one bedded and shrouded in concrete.

It's a DIY job if you fancy an adventure.

B125 Cover, tested to withstand up to 12.5 tonnes running over it, so suitable for Driveway, Car Park etc, where vehicles will be passing over.

If it's a shared drain it is very much the Water Company's issue, has the Chamber been cleared now?
