Jeeze.. what's the bloody problem with these people? it'd take less than 5 mins to just fit a new cap for less than £20........

EUREKA!!! Thanks to you guys the problem has FINALLY been sorted! I have a new valve, at last!
As he removed the cap I heard a sudden hiss as air escaped from where it had obviously been building up in the boiler. Then he went somewhere and came back with a nice shiny new valve, which is what should have happened in the first place. As you people said, it took him about five minutes to install it.
I can't thank you guys enough. You know your stuff and so kindly take the time and trouble to help people like me. Bless you.
