Our cloakroom sink appears to be leaking somewhere around the screwfitting for the waste. It appears like the previous owner has tried to bodge repair it by smearing it with gundge! Anyway I am going to replace it tmrw and was wondering if they are standard as they I have seen this at screwfix:-

Should I also by a selantant type product or is this enough?

are you talking about around the nut at the base of the waste where it leaks ?

I just double checked it and think its the nut but I have noticed that the waste itself does not have a very good purchase on the base of the basin i.e slight movement if pushed. I tried to tighten it but I don't have a spanner wide enough

check the nut is not split quite common on plastic nuts.
or it it a case of the waste just needs resealing and the nut tightening ?

nut doesn't appear cracked but what type sealant would I use? thx adam

just a clear sanitary silicone.

or fit a basin mate then no silicone needed.
