Hi everyone,

I hope members of this forum will be able to help.

The end feed air vent of my central heating system has suddenly started leaking. I usually leave it in the open position and there was no issues until today.

It seemed as if there was some gunky material that oozed out from the air vent and deposited on the vertical pipe (this may not be visible in the photo as I wiped clean the area).

I have closed the air vent and this stopped the leak.

But I realise that there are underlying issues which need fixing.

Is the end feed vent faulty and does it need replacing please?

What is the cause of the gunky material that oozed out please?

Could other faulty part of the heating system cause this issue?

Many thanks

Just replace it, if the heating is working ok otherwise it'll be fine. Mention it at the next service and the quality of the water can be checked.

Thank you everybody.

This morning I noticed there was a slight weep from the cap of the air vent even though it was closed.

Presumably, I will need a new end feed.

Yes, there is a washer inside it. End feed or compression, but I've seen only the new end feed cap/washer being used on the existing fitting.
