hi :)

I need to extend some lean to extension joists for the roof, the roof will be epdm.
Could anyone give me advice please the strongest way to do this?

The two ways I was thinking of is
1- put a piece next to the existing joist, glue in the middle and bolt through with teeth washers also in the middle.

2- sandwiches the existing joist and new joist between two pieces of timber either side , glue, teeth washers and bolt.

I’m not even sure my thoughts are right and may be other ways, I’m not a pro in roofing as I’m a plumber lol l… this is my own house :)

The roof has two Velux windows in which I can work around, it’s a lean to roof with not a massive drop, nearly flat but not quite lol.

any advice in the best way
To do this will be greatly appreciated and welcomed
Thanks
Jake

An image or drawing would help?

Ordinarily they are fixed to the neighbouring rafter and the wall plate...

Hi noseall,
I’ll try and draw a diagram a bit later for you… basically I have around 5 roof joists that are starting to rot on the ends however further up its solid , without having to rip the full roof off I was hoping g I could cut out the rotten part of the rafter and replace just this section
Thanks
Jake
