Probably missed something very simple out but I'm fitting a new switch to a fan (its a pull cord switch) and I wanted to add an led so bought a mk led holder.

When I pull the cord the fan goes on and the led goes out.... pull again and the led goes on and the fan turns off...

Its a simple one way wired switch.

Does this need to be 2 way wired for the led to work?

Thanks,

Ben

The problem being you don't have a neutral at the switch, just a live and a switched live. When the switch is open, the current flows from the permanent live through the neon, the switched live wire, fan timer to neutral. Owing to the high resistance of the neon module not much current can flow hence in your case does not trigger the fan timer circuit (but sometimes it does). Closing the switch shorts across the neon allowing a higher current to flow which operates the fan timer.
