Hey,

Have searched for solutions on both this forum and lighting websites, but still none-the-wiser.

We're having a new bathroom installed. This will include an LED strip under a long stretch of cabinets, and the main, existing "BIG" Light - currently an energy saving bulb.

Also having a shaving socket installed inside the cabinets if that makes a difference.

How do I combine the two light sources via one double dimmer switch outside the door? All products seem either/or but not both. I've also googled Lutron and Levitron and the switches are way too futuristic for our retro flat - standard circular dials, even retro switches, to suit every other switch in the flat would be much preferred.

Thanks in advance!

fit an LED lamp in your ceiling, of course.

Of course.

Except my ceiling is concrete, the wiring inaccessible, and, looking at the majority of LED lights, I think i'd rather **** in the dark.

Are you asking for a switch that has one dimmer control, and one on off control?

If yes then buy a double gang dimmer face plate, and change one of the dimmer controls to a on/off dimmer module.

They will then both look the same, but one will be a dimmer and the other a switch.

Ah the perils of using terms that the uninitiated don't recognise. JohnW2 will be along later to say "I told you so". ;)

JonhD meant put a (dimmable) LED bulb in your ceiling light. I expect.

Either/or what and not both what? ... JohnW2 will know; he's good with decyphering.
I think you probably need a mind reader rather than me! (and, whilst I'm here, I don't think that "decyphering" is the correct spelling :-) ).

As a wild guess, might he mean that double dimmers come with both 'suitable for CFLs' or both 'suitable for LEDs' but not one of each? Who knows?!

Kind Regards, John

what are you moaning about?

Dimming the Led strip may not be that easy though, im not sure a dimmer for Led lamps is suitable as unless the Led strip is mains voltage, your likely dimming the Led strip Driver, not the Leds.
Varilight dimmers dim selected Led lamps ok, but may not do the driver you have and they also do selected CFls but again the Cfl has to be dimmable and compatible, so may NOT be suitable for your loads.

Many LED strips are dimmable.

AFAIR, none of them work by using traditional dimmers on the 230V supply.
