Put the light up and wired back into the garage, there isn’t enough space to fit a new switch at the side of the light switch.
There is a single metal clad socket with two 2.5mm cables,I’m assuming that I can just change the front to a switched fused face plate and go into the load side with the light cable and insert a 3amp fuse instead of the 13amp it came with.
Cheers.

Show us some photos of the layout please. There may be a better way.

Will do tomorrow, too dark now,it’s basically as I said single socket with 2x twin and earth cables to and from it in garage, can’t see any other way of doing it apart from running cable another 20mts to distribution board fitting fused switch above or below it and then adding tails from that to the light circuit.

Or use a suitable cable and then a plug to supply the new light
It’s in 1.5mm flex,I’d like to avoid just putting a plug on the end as other half likes to unplug stuff to use socket and will then leave it unplugged.

So changed single metal socket for a fused switch, inserted A3 amp fuse, changed conduit to 25mm as there wasn’t enough room for the 2x twin and earth and the 1.5mm light cable in the 20mm one.
No slack on the twin and earth cable from a previous installation,so no way to clip it back.

Looks like you have enough room on the wall to keep the socket (which will probably be useful) and spur an FCU off it for the light.

As the cable is in exposed conduit, you can win some slack cable by shortening it and moving the socket box a couple of inches up the wall.

Thanks,no big loss on the socket front as there are more on the rear wall 2x doubles and a single, and another 2x doubles on the other side wall.
It wouldn’t get used much anyway as it’s partly covered under a shelf, awkward to set the plug in and out.
Cheers anyway.

As per post above, she’s now decided to buy a plug in dog shower, the hose is below and to the left of the fused switch,so it looks like this will be going back to a single socket and then having the fused switch unit along side it.

Thoughts on dog shower being close to the metal light switch?.
It’s just over 300mm away from it,I was just thinking if any of the hoses leak potential issue, although it would only be connected while cleaning the dogs off.
Thinking of replacing light switch with a weather proof one,is it necessary?.
Thanks
