Hi all,

This is a bit of a thread duplication as Ive posted the same question in my thread on the floors & loft subsection.

However its more of a building issue and there might be people here who don't look in the other forum.

The overall project is that Im boarding out my loft by installing a new network of joists over existing supporting walls in the loft so I can get the depth of insulation required and then board on top. I have already completed the main section of loft and its come out good, but there is an 'annex' section of loft I also want to board.

What I have is a gable end wall that I need to attach a ledger beam to, and then span off this back to another supporting area of the loft with joists.

This gable end wall is sitting atop a structural beam which is spanning a bay window opening in the room below.

Here is a cross section diagram of the arrangement.

Im concerned that resin fixing onto this gable wall won't be structurally sufficient because its already supported on top of an opening.

Here are some pictures of the room below and the loft above. The loft area shows the gable wall at the far end, from where I need to span back to the boarded section where Im sitting.

Room below indicating where the supporting beam will be, which has been plastered over from the inside.

Nothing wrong with your proposal.
In fact it will help to tie the gable back to your new floor structure, enhancing lateral stability. Any weight you put on the new floor will hardly impact on the existing beam.
The wall looks soundly-built in 9" solid brickwork - some in that position are only one-half brick thick.
