Hello all.

I am looking to DIY a loft conversion and was wondering if anyone has any advice/experience with a smaller sized conversion in a timber framed home.

I have a small mid-terraced home. The footprint of the house/loft space is 7.5m from front to back (truss span) and 3.3m from gable to gable. I was wondering if instead of installing steels and hanging the floor off of them is it possible to put the flooring joists atop the top plate of the gable ends spanning the 3.3m? And then for the roof do the same but with purlins fixed to the top of the gable wall studs supported with fixings and/or cripple studs?

I am in the process of pinning down a structural engineer for advice but have been ghosted twice already. Which may be an answer in itself.

Thanks all.
