Pointing out the inherent bigotry in someone's comment is not shooting the messenger.
Pointing out that bigotry is attempting to blame only a specific portion of society, and denying that all parts of society are equally responsible for similar or worse atrocities is not 'shooting the messenger' but providing sensible evidence for another's bigotry.
