I use a barn as some workshop space. Its probably 120 years old and the floor in one corner is particularly un-even.

It looks to be a load of red bricks which is quite broken up. There is quite a bit of soil which I am drying out so I can hopefully sweep away and see if it is an old floor or just a load of hardcore.

I want to make a sturdy stone/concrete plinth which can support a piece of machinery which weighs up to 400Kgs. The area is 1metre deep (front to back) and 2.5metres wide

What is the easiest way for a non-builder to produce a sturdy surface?
I assume the barn would not have any kind of damp course to worry about?

I was considering a few paving slabs or putting a concrete screed down.
The height correction on the floor I need is around 50mm (at a guess).

I have some old paving slabs which I can use for this...

Thoughts and suggestions on how to prep the floor.......?
