Lighitng problem? I'm puzzled.

Aha!

I haven't touched the switches at all. we had them off the other day but only to paint neater near it.

Suspicion falls on the switch.

Probably ok at the fittings, so transfer you attention to the switch.
has a wire popped out and lodged in the other terminal?

It pays to state all the facts. "Elementary my dear Watson"

It was just a routine pull away from the wall?

I would have thought that a fault with one of the switches (not touched the other at all PROMISE) woulde have effected both lights? Am I wrong?

and also would a loose wire in one switch effect the other switch also?

I'm excited now. something new to investigate I will check it out this evening.

If you can think of anything else worth checking I'm all ears.

Otherwise cross all you fingers and toes for me please.

cheers.

Have you at some point connected up the ceiling rose incorrectly, turned on circuit and blew mcb, then reconnected the rose correctly and not blown the mcb?. If this is the case then I would suggest that the switch is now short circuit, giving the symptoms you describe.

is it not odd that the swich, switches on/off one of the lights though? surely it is not faulty?

Am I wrong to assume this?

and also, will both switches be broke then? as the light is on when both switches are in the off positioin?

If the light with 9 operates correctly, and the one with 3 is on all the time regardless, then you must have connected the red for the faulty light to the loop not the switched live.

Either that, or there is a live short to the switchwire of the 3 light, causing it to stay on. But then the other would, too.

I think the other guys are right. You need a copy of the picture posted here, pen paper and a MM. Go back to the beginning and disconnect everything and start again, testing to find out which wire is which etc...

But before you do that, make a note of what you have done so far, so you could (if you wished) reurn the situation to how it is at the moment.
