Hello again gents,
I have a light fitting i want to put up using the existing ceiling rose cable ( keeping the rose in place) but new light fitting has an earth conection on it. The cable off the rose only has the two pos/neg no earth.
can I just wire it up using these two and ignore the earth conection  ,or do I fit another cable to the rose with the earth inc and wire that to the new light light fitting?
Hope this comes across clear gents, thanks for any thoughts

There is no 'pos/neg', only Line and Neutral.

I think you already know the answer to that question. Hint: It's NO.

Unless you're lucky enough that there is an earth conductor inbetween the red and black wire that has been trimmed back by some idiot in the past, and you're able to pull through some slack and re-terminate it, there's not a lot you can do. Your other options are to rewire the circuit with a cable that does contain a CPC/earth, or take back the light fitting and buy a class II/double insulated one that doesn't require an earth.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

this is a duplicat post.. I already answered the other one..

Ah, so I see. My reply is probably irrelevant anyway, as after re-reading it sounds as if the OP is referring to the pendant drop flex rather than the fixed wiring at the rose itself. I'd still be wary as to whether or not there's an earth at the rose either way, as it's been a while since flex was red and black.

BTW, keeping the existing rose sounds like a right botch.
