Light or dark undercoat?

Should the undercoat be lighter or darker? The options available to me are white and very dark grey.

A light grey would be better.

How come the only options are white and dark grey? There should be undercoats between those two colours.

Out of the two, white would be better than dark grey. The undercoat should be lighter rather than darker than the topcoat.

The dark grey could be difficult to cover over with the top coat.

That's what I was wondering. A light/mid grey undercoat would be required for that that topcoat.

No chance white undercoat would be suitable for that grey you need a mid grey really.Light grey might just work

Dark and two top coats, chip wise, grey under is less obvious than white. And with two top coats, the base colour light or dark grey shouldn't matter.

This gallant water-based exterior satin paint is suitable for application without an undercoat.

You will of course need a primer.
