Hi all

Got a new light fitting, removed old one, sorted wiring and hung up the new fitting, only to find it’s wonky. Turns out that whoever put up the old ones have just used crappy plugs and it’s just pulling straight out. I’ve got plasterboard fixings I was just going to put in expecting it to be a very simple job, but it’s hitting the metal of what I assume is a patress. My metal detector seems to be indicating that the entire ceiling surrounding the light fitting is all metal, so now I’m hesitant to do anything at all and currently sitting in the dark haha.

any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Terry

thanks for getting back to me.

course - what pictures would be useful? I’ve attached one that might be useful. As you can see it’s kinda chewed the ceiling where I’ve attempted the plasterboard fixings as it was hitting the metal..

Do you have access above the ceiling ? Can't tell what that metal is ,can you scratch away a bit more of the plaster ?

No access unfortunately as it’s a flat and I’m on top floor - no idea how I’d even try if it was possible! Just scratched some more plaster away - a bit of metal fell out, and can now see there’s a screw there..

With pic.

Presumably the screw goes into wood ??? If so that one anchorage point sorted !!

So I drilled a few tester holes to see where I could use. Eventually ended up just moving to the side a bit. Now I’ve got a few visible holes to sort out soon! In the meantime, it’s still a bit wonky. Time for a professional I think as it’s aggravating me now haha. Least I’m not sitting in the dark in the meantime. Thanks for your help!
