Hi,

Hoping someone can help with my problem.

I recently changed the hall way light from a rose fitting to a chrome light. The light worked for about a month then when I turned it on one day I heard a noise as though it had blown. Since then I have been unable to get it to work. Also the exterior light no longer works this used to work on a sensor or a switch.

The hall way light is controlled by a switch that I think is called a 2 gang way switch that controls the hall light and the exterior light, there is another switch that controls the hall light and upstairs light on a double gang way switch, the upstairs light works fine. Upstairs there is one switch for the landing light that works fine.

The fuse box is the old style circuit breaker, this looks ok and the circuit for the hall light controls all the down stairs light and the other lights are all working.

The down stairs light from the ceiling has the earth contected to the earth on the light, 1 single black wire conected to the brown wire on the light, 2 black wires connected to the blue wire on the light and 3 red wires from the ceiling that are in a block and have tape around them but are not connected to the light.

I have checked the light switches and they look ok.

Many thanks

Steve

Check the connections at the switch, and at the hall light fitting.

Check all the screws are tight and all cores are firmly inserted.

Checked both switches previously and all wires appear connected and secured correctly, and the wires in the light all appear to be connected correctly

Thanks for your reply. I have had a look for a fused spur unit, the only one I can find is in the kitchen that operates the flourescent lighting under the cupboards (these lights work fine).
