Light switch problem need help pls

hi we have the old style wiring in our house
The problem is we have replaced the landing switch and the hall switch (2 way) but when we put the wires back in the same holes the lights would stay on or turn on and the hall switch off the landing would come on

The layout of the terminals on the new switches may be different to the layout on the old switches

If the new switches have labels L1, L2 and L3 then connect new switches using the labels and not the position of the holes

If the new switches have labels COM L1 and L2 then
The wire(s) that were in L1 on the old switch go into COM on the new switch
The wire(s) that were in L2 on the old switch go into L1 on the new switch
The wire(s) that were in L3 on the old switch go into L2 on the new switch
